Let’s face it, 4×4 tyres are pretty uninteresting really – black, round and made of rubber! And going to a tyre seller to get your tyres fitted is even more uninteresting than the product itself – the waiting rooms are usually fairly grubby and furnished with copies of tyre weekly, boat owner monthly and heat magazine from two years ago (enough even to make a dentist waiting room seen heavenly!!). It’s no surprise then that many people are now leaning towards the web to buy cheap car tyres so they can order markdown tyres from the security of their own home.
There are now quite a few web tyre dealers offering a wide range of van tyres for almost all makes and models. The prices do vary so you need to shop around for the cheapest but as a rule they seem to be upto 40% less than the high street tyre sellers. This has definitely got the traditional sellers looking over their shoulders as the online tyre sellers don’t carry the same expenses as the high street boys and therefore can be a lot cheaper. We’re likely to see a consolidation of the internet tyre market as many organisations join forces however this should only toughen rivalry at the core of the sector and drive down prices to the benefit of the motorist.
Online tyres sales doesn’t mean reduced superiority either as all the low-cost internet tyre dealers we surveyed were offering major brand name tyres at reduced prices. Brands included names such as Yokohama who are renowned as a major tyre manufacturer supplying on a global basis.
In addition the sheer array of tyres for different 4x4s is very impressive and includes all the major car manufacturers such as Jeep as well as some of the more specialist tyres for makes such as Porsche.
This means that almost anyone can shop online for cheap tyres; however there is still a need to get the tyres fitted. The online tyre depots get round this by either delivering the reduced tyres to you directly so you can arrange fitting or have them sent to a local merchant who will fit them for you. Many of the prices quoted online include fitting and some even offer the opportunity to have your tyres fitted by a mobile tyre fitter who can fit them at a time and place that’s handy to you, such as at home or work.
Various surveys predict a considerable growth in this traditionally ‘high street’ business as motorists look to save money on all areas of driving – the bad news for the large high street dealers is that this may well result in the closure of some of the major brands. Whatever the outcome of the market the one thing that is for sure is that people are always looking for a bargain in whatever they buy and reduced tyres are no exception.
