The fastest outlanders

Sometime ago only the sport cars might have such dynamics then the sedans started speeding up. But outlanders than in 90s had maximum of 180 km/h? What would be next?

Now we present you the list of outlanders able to accelerate to 100 km/h in less than 8 seconds.

Porsche Cayenne Turbo S – 0-100 km/h – 5,2 s.
Porsche Cayenne and BMW X5 are the originators of this class. Last year Americans presented 2 editions of Cherokee and TrailBlazer able to make 100 km/h in less than 5 seconds but they are not officially sold in Russia and have 6.0 liters engines. Cayenne has a compact 4.5 l 8-cylinders engine forced with turbocharging to 521 hp. It accelerates to 100 km/h similar to BMW M3.

Mercedes-Benz G55 AMG – 0-100 km/h – 5,6 s.
Well, it was understood with Porsche but with the legendary “Gelendwagen” AMG specialists created a big surprise. They modified V8 engine, mounted the supercharger and the old fashioned G-class started flying.

VW Touareg 6.0 W12 – 0-100 km/h – 5,9 s.
The appearance of this one was predicted as VW specialists would never step aside looking how Porsche designers get maximum out of model on platform developed jointly with VW. Basically those tests revealed an entire potential of Touareg chassis. So, VW mounted on it its engine W12 which is a pair of mutually blocked V6 of 450 hp. In the end they got the fastest modern VW.

BMW X5 4.8iS – 0-100 km/h- 6,1 s.
The BMW outlander (in fact, it’s a crossover) lost only 0.2 s to Touareg and 0.5 s to Gelendwagen. Still, this result is perfect for it reached without any “turbos” or unusual engine architecture. As BMW loved to work with engines they easily got 4.8l and 355 hp engine and it’s not a limit though. M3 got 3.3l engine with 343 hp so X5 got more potential to grow.

Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.7 HEMI – 0-100 km/h- 7,1 s.
Jeep starts to follow its competitors. The most powerful SRT-8 modification may be bought only in North America but 5.7 HEMI is available in Russia. This Cherokee edition beats Volvo XC90 with V8 and Rover Sport but having 5.7l engine it might have shown the better results. Well, Americans don’t love to force the engines…

Volvo XC90 4.4 V8 – 0-100 km/h – 7,3 s.
The “Volvo driver” term no loses the meaning for Volvo put aside its image of family car used to transport kids to school. It’s better to avoid the “road duels” with XC90 that might have the new Yamaha V8 of 315 hp. The Ford specialists seem to love Yamaha engines as it was mounted at Taurus SHO. Targeting the US markets Volvo decided that their brand new XC90 would do it with 4.4 V8. Well, seems it works.

Range Rover Sport 4.2 Supercharged – 0-100 km/h – 7.6 s.
From technical perspective Range Rover Sport is a Land Rover Discovery 3 with Range Rover body having some parts changed to meet the sporting standards. The original edition doesn’t have impressive dynamics but the modification of 4.2 Supercharged with Jaguar 8-cylinder engine forced by supercharger to 396 hp demonstrates the “jaguar” habits. Unfortunately, its power didn’t allow the acceleration time decrease as heavy body and chassis do their job.
