Driver CPC Training – We Describe What The Course Will Cover And What You Can Stand To Gain From It.

by Auto on March 2, 2010

Driver CPC training is a more or less new concept it was introduced as a European directive to reduce the number of accidents envolving Heavy Goods Vehicles and Passenger Carrying Vehicles. The training is based on the belief that drivers should become more and more skillful and adept as their carreer develops and not the opposite, as it is very easy to become complacent and pick up bad habits when driving every day on a commercial basis, and so the training was introduced to make sure that this trend is put into reverse. As a result of undergoing thirty five hours of training every five years, it is expected that commercial drivers will actually become more aware of the hazards the vehicles they drive can pose, aswell as becoming more skilled at handling emergency situations. The course covers a wide range of topics and below is a brief rundown of some of the things that you can be sure will be covered in any good Driver CPC course.

People Trafficking.
Human trafficking is a massive problem these days, and over one hundred and sixty countries worldwide are, according to the UN, affected by problems of this nature. A huge proportion of human trafficking will involve smuggling people either with their consent, or without it, across international borders by hiding them in the back of heavy goods vehicles. Nowadays heavy goods vehicle trailers which are intended to cross international borders are normally sealed, either by running a cable through the curtain clips and fitting a tamper proof seal where it joins, or by using plastic seals on each curtain fastner. This still does not always stop determined criminals or imigrants, who often climb on top of the trailor and slash the fabric to achieve entry whthout leaving any sign of their presence from ground level. The Driver CPC course has a section which is intended to ensure that drivers are always aware of these risks and are brought up to date with the latest methods used by illegal immigrants and people traffickers.

Assessing Emergency Situations.
In an emergency situation a driver often finds himself with a split second to react, and the way he reacts will often decide the acuteness of the coming accident, or the difference between a near miss and a collission. Driver CPC training covers several emergency situations and teaches drivers advanced methods of bringing their vehicle back under control. It also teaches them to think outside the box and consider methods of avoiding an accident, or minimising the damage that they might not have otherwise considered.

Company Image Preservation.
Many drivers simply do not consider the fact that whilst they are driving a lorry with their companies logo emblazened down the side in huge lettering, that their actions can have a colossal impact on the public image of the company they drive for. Insensitive driving and negligent attitudes towards other road users at the end of the day affect the public image of the employer. In addition any accidents that reslt form such actions could result in very unconstructive media attention. Driver CPC training teaches drivers to be aware of the less direct consequences that their actions can bring as well as the direct ones.

Safety Risks.
The safety risk section covers a broad range of hazards that drivers are exposed to, topics covered will include the different types of hazards that are presented by road conditions, and the importance of checking their load is secure. Many drivers have lost their lives in the past due to unsafe loads traveling through the back of the cab either upon braking hard or colliding with another truck. In the majority of cases a few simple checks would have prevented this by ensuring that the load was well secured before departure.
