EBay And Leasing Are Ways For Selling New Cars

by Auto on August 13, 2009

General Motors, the owners of big car brands like Chevrolet and Pontiac, earlier this year filed for bankruptcy. However, they have now sorted themselves out, and from July, they have stopped receiving bankruptcy protection from the government.

Now that they have sort of recovered, they are now attempting to build themselves back up again and bring in more sales to the company. They are currently investigating in 2 new ways to sell cars. The first one is car leasing, which they had previously pulled out of this time last year. General Motors are currently planning to return to the contract hire market this year. General Motors, being the manufacturer, may be able to give some extremely cheap van leasing offers as they can sell the cars right off the production line.

The other method they are trying to the more news worthy one, they are going to be making deals with eBay, the online auction site. As of August 11th, within the California area, General Motors started listing brand new Buick, Chevrolet, GMC and Pontic cars onto the online auction site.

The idea is to run the listings on a trial basis until the start of September, however, with over 225 of their 250 Californian dealers already signed up to the scheme, it’s already proving to be popular. Customers using the system will be allowed to either pay the listed price for the car, or they are allowed to haggle for a new price. Once a car is bought via the site, the customer is then required to travel to one of the listed retailers and pick up the car.

If both eBay and General Motors find the system to be successful and profitable, they will looks to expand it across the entire United States. Also as other companies look to General Motors to see if the methods are successful, we might see other companies offering their own cars for lease such as a Mazda lease.
